That Aha! Moment

Did you ever wonder how or why these moments happen? Where do they come from? Well, they happen in times of mental quietude. They seem to appear out of nowhere. That’s because they need some space to be created. This is why people are stopped in their tracks before and after this spontaneous…ness. You may have noticed that an aha comes after a moment of shock, or when you are mentally exhausted. In both cases the mind has ceased, but you don’t notice this and the reason is you’ve become lost in the moment. You believe that what just happened is what brought on this clarity, but this isn’t entirely true. Stillness has this effect on people, and you might even believe you were paralyzed in that instance.

There is a way to capture this flash of insight, and I’ll tell you how. The next time you have one of these moments, as soon as possible take a little time to be quiet. Just sit for a few minutes and observe your thoughts. Become still. If you’re at work or driving when this happens, then just take a conscious breath or two. Really fill your lungs with life preserving oxygen. Doing this will water the seed for future aha moments. Painters, musicians and artists of all kinds experience this often. They learn to be still, so they can be inspired to create. It’s so crucial to to take these mental breaks, and nurture this inner voice. Add this to your daily routine whether you get an aha or not. This will prepare you to receive more of them. Now you can be an artist, and your life will be the canvas.
